Imagine your day being brightened by someone volunteering to accompany you for a chat and a walk once a week.
Do you know someone who is lonely and/or finds it difficult to venture out for fresh air, would love some company and a walk in the sunshine.
Age Concern Wellington’s Companion Walking Service offers just that. We have police vetted and trained volunteers we match with seniors who would like some companionship and a walk. Sometimes these walks assist in rehabilitation, helping a senior find confidence again after a fall or injury. Sometimes the walk may begin by making it to the letterbox and progress to being able to walk to the local shops for a coffee and back home. Other clients are happy for a brisk walk along the parade or a nature walk.
We have many stories from our volunteers and clients who often find this is the beginning of a long-term and wonderful friendship. Pictured here are Flo and Ray out for an autumn stroll.
