Our Phone Friend Service provides companionship to people over 65 who are lonely and would like a regular phone call from a friendly volunteer. We aim to match people with volunteers who have similar interests.
If you decide that you would like a Phone Friend, your local Visiting Service coordinator will contact you to get to know you and find out about your interests. They’ll then try to match you with a carefully chosen, trained volunteer who will call you regularly.
We will keep in touch with you and your volunteer to make sure you’re both enjoying your visits. If there’s ever a problem, we’ll work with you to put it right.
One of our Phone Friend Service volunteers, SockHwee, recently said: “I encourage others to use the Phone Friend Service,” SockHwee says. “It could be for a short period even. If you feel your life needs connectivity, this is worth a try. Age Concern’s services are helping many people by linking them.” You can read more about her experience with the service here (click here)…
If you’re feeling lonely and would like a phone friend, or if you’d like to refer someone to this service, then give us a call on 04 499 6645 and one of our Visiting Service Coordinators will be in touch.
