Let’s work together for a safer online world
We live more of our lives online these days and as digital threats such as AI, scams, online abuse and social media become more sophisticated, it’s harder than ever to keep ourselves safe. But there are ways we can protect ourselves and our whanau.
This week, from 17-23 August is Netsafety Week 2026 and this year’s theme is Online Safety is a team sport – play your part. It’s a reminder that keeping each other safe online takes all of us, working together.
There are lots of ways you can get involved in Netsafety Week such as taking part in one of the many free online public webinars. Hear from global tech platform representatives, subject matter experts, researchers, online safety specialists and lived experience panellists offering insight, practical advice and healthy caution.
Sessions include:
- Scams targeting New Zealanders and how to beat them
- AI and online safety
- Raising safe and resilient kids online
- Ending online abuse and enabling women
- Understanding the Manosphere
- Safer spaces for rainbow communities
- Moderating hard and building healthier communities online
- Rangatahi voices – how young people are shaping the online world
You can also pick up free resources and activity ideas for you, your whanau, your organisation and your community from any library across the country. You’ll have access to real stories and honest advice at no cost to you. Remember, by forwarding information and sharing what you’ve learnt you can help someone else get the support they need before something goes wrong.
