Through a wide range of services, programmes, advocacy, education, social connection initiatives, and volunteer support, Age Concern Wellington works every day to reduce loneliness, promote wellbeing, and help older people live fulfilling and independent lives.
As demand for our services continues to grow, Age Concern Wellington is inviting expressions of interest from community-minded individuals to join its Board and help make a meaningful difference.
The Opportunity

Working alongside fellow board members and the Chief Executive, you will help provide governance, strategic oversight, and stewardship to ensure the organisation continues to thrive and deliver on its mission.
The Board is committed to strong governance, community impact, and ensuring Age Concern Wellington remains responsive to the changing needs of older people throughout the region.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who bring experience in:
- Volunteer Management
- Fundraising planning and implementation
- Māori, Pacific, and diverse community perspectives
Previous governance experience is welcomed, but equally important is a commitment to Age Concern Wellington’s purpose and values and a desire to contribute positively to your community.

Role of a Board Member
ACWR is a registered Charitable Trust. We are governed by a Board of Trustees who meet at formal Board meetings six times a year, in person or by video conference. There are also five informal meetings on alternate months which act us service and programme updates. The key functions of the Board is:
- Ensure strategies, objectives and targets reflect a commitment of continued development and financial stability.
- Ensure the appropriate systems and processes are in place to manage performance and identify and manage potential risk.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of a transparent financial management system that is compliant with accepted accounting standards and policies.
- Ensure Age Concern’s monies and other assets are used according to the objects outlined in the Trust Deed.
- Ensure Age Concern and its representatives always function within the relevant legal and social framework of the sector and in compliance with the Trust Deed.
- Uphold the fiduciary duty invested in Age Concern, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence, encourages engagement and trust.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all information received in the course of the Board Member’s responsibilities.
